C'è un po' di confusione sulle origini di questa manifestazione; molti pensano sia nata in ricordo delle centinaia di operaie morte nell'incendio di una fabbrica di camicie nel 1908 a New York, altre fonti citano la violenta repressione di una  manifestazione sindacale di operaie a New York nel 1857, mentre altre ancora fanno riferimento a scioperi e incidenti avvenuti a Chicago, Boston o New York. There's some confusion about the origins of this celebration; many people think it originated to remember the deaths of hundreds of female workers in the fire of a factory in New York in 1908, other people refer to the violent repression of a strike in New York in 1857 and others to strikes and incidents in Chicago, Boston and New York. Un anno è finito, uno nuovo è iniziato!

Gli auguri ve li avevo già fatti qui,

Halloween!!!

Oggi anche in Italia tutti conoscono Halloween e le sue usanze, ma ricordo una quindicina di anni fa, quando la mia "bimba" era alle elementari ed io tenevo a lei ed un gruppetto di sue amichette un corso di inglese, che il 31 ottobre le vestivo da streghette e fantasmini e le portavo in giro per il quartiere a fare "trick or treat"...Allora in Italia nessuno conosceva Halloween e tutti per strada le guardavano straniti, qualcuno addirittura ci fermava per chiedere cosa facessero vestite così. Le bimbe allora spiegavano e chi aveva qualche caramella a quel punto la metteva nei loro sacchettini. Poi le bimbe si dirigevano da mia mamma e da un paio di vicine, da me appositamente istruite in merito e pronte a riceverle con ogni sorta di dolcetto.
Dopo un paio d'anni, però, la gente del quartiere, grazie a noi, cominciava a conoscere questa usanza e diverse persone vedendoci travestite e ricordandosene, correvano al supermercato vicino a casa a comprare caramelle e ci inseguivano poi per metterle nei sacchettini delle bimbe, con loro grande gioia!
Ora la bimba è cresciuta, ma ha sempre questo ricordo stampato nella memoria ed anche se ovviamente è passata l'età del "trick or treat", prepara qualche dolcetto a tema, che il più delle volte non faccio in tempo a fotografare, perchè è già misteriosamente sparito! 



Nowadays Halloween is known in Italy, too, but I remember about fifteen years ago, when my "child" was at primary school, that I used to teach English to her and her friends and on October 31st we used to dress up like witches and ghosts and go around our neighbourhood and play trick or treat...Those days nobody in Italy knew about Halloween and people looked at us in a strange way and somebody stopped us and asked why we were dressed in that odd way. The girls explained the reason and then if they had some sweets with them they put them in the girls' baskets. Then we went to my mother's and to some neighbour's to whom I had previously explained about Halloween and our visit and they were waiting for us with a lot of sweets for the girls.
After a couple of years, however, thanks to us, people in our neighbourhood began to know about Halloween, so when they saw us dressed up they remembered and some of them ran to the supermarket to buy sweets and followed us to put them in the girls' baskets!
Now my "child" is a bit grown up to play trick or treat, but she still remember those days and at Halloween she usually bakes some themed biscuits...unfortunately I rarely manage to take pictures of them, because they misteriously vanish so quickly!
